Ron Weijers is a Dutch artist who paints primarily on wooden panels using a multi-layered mix of collage, acrylic, oil pastel, graphite and other objects. Weijers began his career in graphic design and that experience influences his fine art work today.
Ron’s paintings are part of his quest to find balance between tranquility and tension. He’s subjects are inspired by his views on contemporary and often complex issues, for which he hopes to reveal a deeper understanding within these issues. Through the process of creating the work, Weijers’s communicates his views, but with abstraction encourages the viewer to become informed and develop their own unique perspective.
Pulp Vision and Vortex are a few Weijers’s recent bodies of work. Pulp Vision creates a dialogue on the aspect of self reflection with regards to the global financial crisis. The work attempts to explore all sides of the debate on this crisis. This series is comprised of 24 works on paper that explore ideas of transformation and contradiction of the financial crisis. Weijers uses U.S. currency, insurance papers, Greek accounting books, pin-up illustrations and erotic photography to build a collage. Layering onto the surface, he paints lucent acrylic to both abstract and reveal his topic.
The Vortex series is created on wood panel, using collage and layering paint and drawings. The focus of this body of work is taking a stand to face the reality and responsibility in life. Weijers offers a moral message on a more personal and individual level and interacts with the conscious of the viewer about this message.
